Tom Sullivan to Speak at the 1st Annual “Doing Business with The Eurasian Union Conference”.

Tom Sullivan will speak at 1st Annual “Doing Business with The Eurasian Union Conference”, organized by The Eurasia Center and The Eurasian Business Coalition, in Washington, DC on December 8, 2014.

Mr. Sullivan is invited to speak on the further impact of the sanctions imposed by the United States’ government on certain Russian individuals and entities and implications for Russia, as well as the world economy and the economy of the Eurasian region in particular.

The conference is convened in the context of the new Eurasian Economic Union, established by a treaty signed between the leaders of Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Russia in May 2014, and Armenia having joinide the Union in October 2014. The Union will officially go into effect on 1 January 2015. The Union will officially go into effect on 1 January 2015. The Eurasia Center and The Eurasian Business Coalition report the rise of interest to understanding in how an improve opportunities and trade with centers of economic development in the area, that comprise 15% of the world’s landmass and unites more than 170 million people.

Attorney Bruce Marks comments on Malaysian plane crash on Fox News 29

July 17, 2014 Bruce Marks commented on the crash of Malaysia Airlines in southeastern part of Ukraine on Fox News 29. He gives his concerns that this tragedy can intensify tension in the region and aggravate the political situation in general.

“Doing business with the BRICS” Conference, Washington DC

Tom Sullivan was a speaker at the 2nd annual “Doing business with the BRICS” Conference held on May 13, 2014 in Washington, D.C.

The program was sponsored by The Eurasia Center along with Embassy of the Russian Federation and Diplomatic missions of Brazil, India, China and South Africa.

Tom discussed the recent situation in Ukraine and series of executive orders signed by President Obama imposing sanctions on Russian government officials and members of the inner circle in order to pressure the Russian government to alter its policies toward Ukraine.

Russia And Ukraine: What Employers Need To Know And Do During Times Of Crisis

March 18, 2014

Marks & Sokolov presented the webinar on the current political circumstances in the Ukraine and Russia, and how organizations with operations, employees and/or business relationships may be affected during times of crisis. The discussion  emphasized employment relationships, rights and obligations; issues regarding visas, safety and ongoing management; and an overview of commercial issues of which companies should be aware when problems arise.

The webinar featured 106  attendees and the following speakers:

Derek Bloom is a partner with Marks & Sokolov’s Moscow office. Derek is a member of the District of Columbia Bar Association. Maria Grechishkina speaks at the 6th Eurasian Business Coalition Annual Conference: Doing Business With Russia, Washington, DC

On December 4, 2013 The Eurasia Center & The Eurasian Business Coalition & The Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Russian Federation in the USA organized 6th Annual Conference: Doing Business With Russia that was hosted by the Russian Trade Representation and the Embassy of the Russian Federation. The Conference addressed Russia’s new accession to the World Trade Organization and the post-WTO opportunities for companies within Russia.

Maria Grechishkina, the leading attorney of Marks & Sokolov, made a presentation “Russian Civil Law Reform 2013” regarding the undergoing number of major changes in the Russian Civil Code. The main goal of the reform is to improve and modernize the Civil Code of Russia including Part One that contains the common and key provisions and definitions of the Russian civil law.

On February 26, 2009 U.S.- Russian Business council organized legal conference “Russia: From Legal Nihilism to Rule of Law”. The conference was held in Constitution Center in Philadelphia. The delegates discussed situation with courts in Russia, on-going issues related to litigation and arbitration in Russia, impact of the economic crisis and the legal outcomes of the Russian bailout, as well as the implications of new Central Bank regulations and the possibility of currency controls, burning intellectual property law issues, anti-corruption legislation, impact of FCPA and issues of conformity and insights into best practices.

Attorney Bruce Marks Speaks at White Nights Legal Forum
